The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) has pioneered a new model for conservation in Maine by blending recreation, forestry, education, and community partnerships across its ownership of 75,000+ acres. This role sits at the intersection of the Conservation Policy and Maine Woods Initiative teams, leveraging the scientific expertise of research staff and the operational knowledge of trails and recreation management to drive strategic outcomes.
As the Maine Conservation Policy Director, you will serve as the primary advocate and government relations professional advancing AMC's conservation and recreation mission. You will lead efforts to develop public policy priorities and execute advocacy initiatives at both state and federal levels. Your work will focus on protecting priority landscapes, enhancing recreational opportunities, mitigating climate change, ensuring forest resiliency, and strengthening the outdoor recreation economy.
In this capacity, you will cultivate relationships with the Maine Legislature, the Governor's office, state natural resource officials, and Members of Congress. You will build networks of advocates and outdoor recreationists, transforming public awareness into active support for AMC's agenda. The role requires close collaboration with Communications and Development departments to ensure effective external messaging and financial support for the mission.
Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume. Please note that phone calls are not accepted; direct candidates only.
