Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) is an intentionally diverse network of tuition-free public charter schools serving families in Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, and Pawtucket. As a founding member of the National Coalition of Diverse Charter Schools, our mission is to prepare every scholar to achieve their goals for college and the world beyond. We believe that true preparation involves experiencing the diversity of the world we live in; therefore, our network is designed to accept students from communities that share a region but differ substantially in socio-economic, racial, and ethnic demographics.
We seek to create a staff with a similarly diverse set of backgrounds and experiences that reflect our students, families, and communities. Our team operates on the belief that 100% of scholars can be successful, fostering an environment of respect, inclusion, and equity.
This position is a unique shared role between Blackstone Valley Prep and the YMCA of Pawtucket. The Custodian is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and operational environment across both school and community spaces. Approximately 60% of the time will be dedicated to supporting the Blackstone Valley Prep's PrYde campus, while 40% will be spent supporting the Pawtucket Family YMCA.
Reporting to both a BVP administrator and the Executive Director of the Pawtucket Family YMCA, you will be the guardian of our physical spaces. Your day will involve ensuring facilities are ready for learning and community engagement, from setting up classrooms and event spaces to managing building systems and responding to safety concerns. You will work collaboratively with the Facilities Management team to regulate heating and ventilation, handle minor repairs, and ensure all areas adhere to strict health and safety standards. This role requires a "do whatever it takes" attitude to keep our environment safe and welcoming for scholars, staff, and community members alike.
To apply, please submit your resume and a tailored cover letter online. Your cover letter should specifically highlight your alignment with our mission to empower scholars and create an equitable community. Please save your documents using your first and last name.
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we regretfully can only respond to candidates who best meet the requirements of the position. If selected to advance, you will be contacted directly by a BVP team member.
BVP does not negotiate on salaries; allowing for negotiations undermines the economic equity we strive for as an organization. We endeavor to pay people well based on a transparent salary scale determined by experience, competencies, and responsibilities.
We are committed to a culture of integrity and ethical conduct. All team members are expected to act with respect, engage families as partners, and uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism. We believe that our staff's diverse backgrounds and experiences are vital to our success in breaking down barriers for our scholars.
