This position serves as the operational leader for the library, responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating all daily functions and staff activities. The role exists to ensure the library effectively supports the instructional programs of NTU by managing workflow, implementing operating policies, and maintaining robust public information services.
As the supervisor of the library division, you will oversee the full lifecycle of library resources—from selecting and acquiring collections to classifying, cataloging, and maintaining them. You will guide patrons in utilizing library systems and research methods, secure external resources through inter-library loans, and ensure the operability of library computer systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing compliance systems, tracking performance measures, and providing instruction to students, faculty, and staff.
In this capacity, you will host regular staff meetings, manage personnel activities including hiring and performance evaluations, and oversee daily operations, work schedules, and timekeeping. The role requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, re-engineer operations, and establish professional relationships with individuals from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
This position is subject to the Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act, which applies to all hiring, promotions, or transfers. Candidates must be able to pass a background check with no prior convictions of felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect. A valid and clean state driver's license is also required.
Work is typically performed in a library environment with minimal noise levels, though frequent interaction with students and the public is expected. The role involves tight time constraints and multiple demands, with evening, weekend, and irregular shifts potentially required. The physical nature of the job includes frequent sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
