Springfield Public Schools is a cultural gem in Western Massachusetts and the 3rd largest district in the state. We are committed to providing a learning environment that opens the doors of infinite possibilities for our approximately 24,000 students. Our community is incredibly diverse, with over 44 languages spoken and representation from more than 60 countries among our students and staff.
We foster a positive and professional environment where people feel valued, respected, supported, seen, and heard. Our students and staff share ideas and perspectives, learning from and appreciating one another. As a district, we are deeply committed to equity and excellence.
We believe that if you believe, you have a place on our team. In addition to competitive salaries and benefits, we provide numerous cutting-edge professional development opportunities for all staff. Our professional development is data-driven, ensuring it is relevant and actionable.
We support our teaching staff with mentors, including instructional leadership specialists and effective educator coaches, who work with them throughout the year on lesson planning, data analysis, and management. The district offers career advancement opportunities and is invested in "Grow our Own" and educational pipeline programs to help staff achieve college degrees or certification pathways.
This position serves as a vital partner to the school community, operating and supervising the school library while directly supporting the district's mission of critical thinking and knowledge enhancement. The role is designed to bridge the gap between library resources and the instructional program, ensuring that materials are effectively integrated into the curriculum.
In this role, you will work closely with principals, classroom teachers, parents, and students. You will be responsible for selecting and acquiring new materials, cataloging systems, and arranging interlibrary loans. Beyond logistics, you will actively promote appropriate conduct, help students develop habits of independent reference work, and collaborate with teachers to plan assignments that leverage library resources. You will also present materials to classes, curate engaging book-related displays, and participate in curriculum meetings and professional associations.
If you have specific questions about the position or need assistance matching your skills to this role, Carmen Molina-Figueroa is available to assist at molina-figueroac@springfieldpublicschools.com.
