Join the largest American Muslim civil rights organization for first-hand experience working on a wide range of cases that serve clients from diverse backgrounds. Law clerks will assist in providing direct services to individuals impacted by discrimination and work on projects that highlight distinct civil rights issues, ranging from immigration assistance to securing the rights of Muslims to practice their religion freely in various public spheres.
This clerkship offers a unique opportunity to engage deeply with civil rights advocacy. You will conduct intakes by counseling a diverse group of callers, research complex areas of law including discrimination, constitutional, employment, and national security issues, and draft essential legal documents such as complaints and memos. The role involves direct interaction with administrative agencies, attorneys, and employers, as well as participating in outreach efforts during religious services, community events, and CAIR's Know Your Rights workshops.
Clerks will undertake term-long research and advocacy projects focusing on critical issues such as prisoners' rights, student bullying, law enforcement surveillance, and immigration reform. Additionally, all law clerks are required to assist in general duties, including answering phones and other office tasks, and may be asked to participate in events outside of normal business hours.
To apply, please submit the following materials:
While CAIR-SFBA does not compensate law clerks, we encourage candidates to apply for funding through scholarships and/or fellowships. For more information, contact your law school career services office.
Clerkships typically last from 10-12 weeks, depending on the student's academic calendar.
