About the Role
As a key member of the Walgreens team, you will serve as the operational backbone for both the front end and pharmacy departments. This role is designed to ensure the seamless flow of inventory, maintain strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and deliver a distinctive customer experience. You will act as a liaison between management and team members, coaching others on inventory systems while stepping up as the Leader on Duty to manage store operations, resolve customer issues, and ensure the store is ready for business.
Day in the Life
Your day begins with preparing the store for the business day, which may include opening or closing duties, system start-ups, and ensuring the floor and stockroom are organized. You will be deeply involved in the end-to-end inventory lifecycle: receiving deliveries, verifying shipments against orders, and managing complex pharmacy inventory activities such as recalls, hazardous waste disposal, and vendor returns. Accuracy is paramount, as you will validate planograms, manage pricing changes, and maintain precise on-hand counts for both general merchandise and regulated products like alcohol and tobacco.
Beyond inventory, you are the face of the store for many customers. You will greet shoppers, offer proactive assistance, and model service best practices to create a delightful experience. When serving as the Leader on Duty, you will take accountability for resolving customer issues, managing point-of-sale transactions, and coordinating the team to meet daily operational goals. You will also play a vital role in physical inventory preparation and auditing, ensuring the store remains compliant with state laws and company policies.
Hiring Process
We value internal growth and external talent equally. Internal candidates are encouraged to apply if they have at least six months of prior work experience with Walgreens, while external candidates should have one year of prior retail experience. Successful applicants will demonstrate a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and possess strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities. Those with prior experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, or customer service associate are particularly encouraged to apply.
