About the Role

The Human Resources Leave & Disability Specialist at the United Community Center in Milwaukee, WI, serves as a critical compliance and support hub for employee well-being. This role exists to ensure the organization navigates the complex intersection of federal, state, and local laws while supporting employees through medical leave, disability, and workplace injuries.

In this position, you will manage the full lifecycle of leave administration, from the initial notice of an employee's need for leave to their successful return to work. You will act as a trusted advisor to both managers and employees, clarifying how leave laws interact with paid time off, workers' compensation, and disability benefits. Your day-to-day involves coordinating with insurance carriers, maintaining strict confidentiality of medical records, and ensuring that all accommodations and return-to-work programs are executed with integrity and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleAdminister FMLA, ADA, and other leave requests while ensuring legal compliance
  • check_circleManage Workers' Compensation claims and coordinate with insurance carriers
  • check_circleTrack employee leave and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with privacy laws
  • check_circleHandle unemployment claims, prepare responses, and participate in hearings as needed
  • check_circleSupport internal and external audits by preparing documentation and ensuring compliance
  • check_circleMaintain knowledge of legal changes and recommend best practices for employment laws
  • check_circleCoordinate short-term and long-term disability programs and return-to-work initiatives
  • check_circleAdvise managers and employees on leave laws, benefits, and paid time off interactions
  • check_circleTrain departments on proper procedures for Workers' Compensation and accident reporting
  • check_circleConduct accident investigations and analyze injury trends to improve workplace safety

Requirements
