About the University

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is a premier mission-driven institution located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles. Founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising, CDU was established to address inadequate medical care in the region and provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students. The university remains strongly invested in the local and regional community, leading multiple partnerships to provide equitable healthcare resources across south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

About the Role

The CDU HIV Research Pillar and Drew Center for AIDS Research, Education, and Services (Drew CARES) are seeking two faculty members to join our vibrant team. This role includes a CDU College of Medicine faculty appointment at the academic rank of Assistant-to-Full Professor, determined by experience and dossier review. Faculty members will have unique opportunities for research collaboration and mentorship with the new UCLA-CDU Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), which is dedicated to stopping HIV in Los Angeles County and beyond through multidisciplinary engagement.

We are looking for investigators whose work combines HIV prevention, treatment, and/or health services research with areas such as substance use disorders, mental health, trauma, clinical informatics, hepatitis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or mobile technologies. We specifically seek those with research experience in domestic issues related to Black and Latino populations or international issues regarding prevention and treatment in Sub-Saharan Africa. HIV clinicians are highly encouraged to apply.

Application Instructions

Candidates must submit the following specific documents as attachments to their application:

  • Current Curriculum Vitae: Use the provided CDU CV template.
  • Academic Credentials: Include Medical License, Certifications, Board Certifications, and Fellowships.
  • Evaluators: Provide contact information for 2-3 references during the application questions.
  • Personal Statement: A one-page statement using the provided CDU template.

Hiring Process

Faculty rank will be determined based on the review of submitted dossier materials. Selected candidates will be expected to maintain a teaching load, participate in academic committees, and engage in shared governance. The role requires the ability to work effectively with a diverse community and comply with all university health and safety requirements, including current CDU COVID-19 protocols.

Equal Opportunity

Charles R. Drew University is committed to Equal Employment Opportunity. Applicants will be considered without regard to gender, race, age, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information, marital status, disability, or covered veteran status. The university will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local "Fair Chance" laws.
