The Pennington School is seeking a highly engaging and passionate Upper School History Teacher for the 2026-27 academic year. This role is designed for an educator who will teach four sections of Upper School History, collaborating with colleagues to help students develop mastery of historical thinking and writing skills. The position embraces a student-centered approach, guiding learners toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding.
You will teach World History and potentially Advanced Placement courses, while enthusiastically collaborating with the Upper School English Department on interdisciplinary humanities work. A key part of the mission is to support the History Department's goal of helping students develop empathy and connect more broadly to the variety of human experiences. The ideal candidate will utilize the "teaching for understanding" framework in curriculum planning and foster an environment where individual excellence is elicited in every student.
Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to the growth of the department and the School through committee work. You are expected to demonstrate warmth, collegiality, humor, and industry in all interactions with students, colleagues, and parents. The role requires leading at least two extracurricular and/or athletic endeavors per year and attending school events, which may include occasional weekends and evenings.
