This unique position serves as a bridge between academic support and real-world readiness, combining the responsibilities of a Special Education Transition Teacher and a Resource Specialist (RSP) Teacher. Reporting to the Administrative Director, you will provide specialized academic instruction and case management to high school students with disabilities. Your mission is to ensure that every student not only accesses the general education curriculum but also develops the skills necessary for successful postsecondary education, employment, and independent living.
In this dual-capacity role, you will split your focus between direct classroom instruction and strategic transition planning. You will serve as a case carrier for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), coordinating their academic progress while simultaneously driving the development of compliant Individual Transition Plans (ITPs). Your day will involve a dynamic mix of co-teaching in general education classrooms, facilitating small-group instruction in the Learning Center, and leading IEP team meetings where you provide expertise on transition services.
Beyond the classroom, you will act as a connector for the community. You will identify and facilitate work-based learning opportunities, including internships and job shadowing, by building partnerships with businesses, foundations, and community agencies. You will also provide technical guidance and professional development to site-based transition teams, ensuring that the entire school staff is equipped to support students with disabilities effectively.
Candidates selected for an interview will be invited to participate in a multi-stage process designed to assess both pedagogical expertise and cultural fit. The process typically includes:
We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment where all students and staff can thrive. We consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
This role is based within a comprehensive high school environment, requiring flexibility to work across classrooms, resource rooms, and administrative offices. The position involves frequent interaction with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. While the pace is often fast and deadline-driven, particularly during IEP cycles and grant reporting periods, the environment is student-centered and collaborative. Occasional extended hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required to meet program needs or attend off-site community events.
