OBU transforms lives by equipping students to pursue academic excellence, integrate faith with all areas of knowledge, engage a diverse world, and live worthy of the high calling of God in Christ. The Division of Language and Literature seeks a scholar who shares this vision and is committed to Christian higher education.
We are seeking an Associate Professor of Creative Writing and English with a concentration in fiction to join our faculty. This role is designed for an educator who can inspire students at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels while fostering a clear vision for the integration of faith and learning within the creative writing and first-year composition classrooms.
In this position, you will teach a variety of courses, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced creative writing, as well as general education core curriculum courses in composition and literature. Depending on your credentials, you may also have the opportunity to teach the sophomore-level Western Civilization literature and history survey and upper-level English electives. Beyond the classroom, you will mentor undergraduate students, contribute to divisional and university service, and maintain an active publication profile in the field of fiction.
OBU achieves its mission through a shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and faith. All employees are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the essentials of the Christian faith and model these values in their daily behavior. We strive to build relationships on honesty and trust, treat people with dignity and respect, and manage resources wisely.
A key requirement for this position is the ability to engage students in inclusive and supportive learning communities. Candidates must be willing to integrate Christian faith and academic discipline into their teaching and scholarship. Additionally, successful candidates must be members of a local evangelical Christian church, defined as a segment within Christianity that maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
Competitive candidates will possess a terminal degree in Creative Writing (Ph.D. or M.F.A.) with a concentration in fiction, or an M.A. in English with a robust record of fiction publication. Please submit your application materials including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and writing samples to the Division of Language and Literature.
