The Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is home to 11 departments, 19 undergraduate majors, and six graduate majors. The Department of Creative and Professional Writing offers a unique Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing with concentrations in Creative Writing, Journalism, Public Relations, and Business and Technical Writing. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the 2026-2027 academic year serves as the Coordinator of Composition and the Coordinator of the Writing Center. The successful candidate will teach in and oversee the university's Composition program, which includes the first-year COMP 101 course, a second-tier composition course, training for Writing Center tutors, and teaching-in-the-schools courses.
As a leader in the department, you will envision and revise the Composition curriculum as needed and advise the university on General Education matters related to writing. In the Writing Center, you will supervise student peer tutors, provide specialized support during sessions, manage the physical space, and oversee the embedded tutor program. You will also be responsible for developing and training opportunities for both Composition instructors and student tutors, ensuring the healthy operation of both the Composition Program and the Writing Center.
Faculty in this role carry a 12-credit hour load per semester, with reassigned time provided for the coordination duties. Professors are expected to maintain an active research program, serve on committees, and advise students. We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for first-generation and under-represented groups.
