Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Cancer Service Line Director, the Division Head of Hematology/Oncology will provide strategic and operational leadership across all medical functions, including clinical care, education, and research. This role encompasses comprehensive oversight within the Henry Ford Medical Group and across the system's Cancer Service Line, playing a pivotal part in advancing innovation, quality, and academics to elevate cancer care delivery throughout Metro Detroit and beyond.
The successful candidate will oversee a dynamic enterprise generating more than $1 billion in annual gross patient revenue and leading over 40 full-time academic physicians. As the senior physician leader for medical oncology, the Division Head will have substantial input into all academic, clinical, and operational decisions related to the Henry Ford Health (HFH) Cancer enterprise.
Henry Ford Health, a $13 billion academic health system, is currently executing massive strategic growth plans. These include the $3 billion "Future of Health: Detroit" investment, anchored by a new hospital facility and a state-of-the-art 335,000-square-foot research building on the Detroit campus. A key component of this expansion is the academic partnership with Michigan State University, with a primary focus on cancer, including the planned recruitment of 35 additional cancer research faculty positions over the next five years.
In this context, the Division Head will serve as a practicing member of the Hematology/Oncology Division and an accomplished academician. The role requires a leader prepared to grow a strong research portfolio in key areas such as investigator-initiated clinical trials, precision medicine, and population health. The incumbent will work closely with the HFH+MSU Cancer Center Director to amplify the clinical research program and will be responsible for advancing the medical education mission, ensuring robust fellowship programs, and fostering an environment of scholarly inquiry.
The Division Head holds overall responsibility for a vibrant Bone Marrow Transplant Program, infusion program, and cancer care across five hospitals and multiple ambulatory sites in southeast and central Michigan. The role involves cultivating the continued expansion and integration of Hematology/Oncology and Infusion services across the entire system, utilizing a pluralistic model where appropriate and a fully integrated model when possible. The incumbent will collaborate closely with Hematologists, Medical Oncologists, Department of Medicine Division Heads, and other Chairs to develop and implement best practices for inpatient and outpatient care.
This position demands robust emotional intelligence to navigate multifaceted responsibilities within a prominent leadership role. The Division Head is expected to be a strong advocate for innovative thinking, patient-centric operational modeling, and the development of a vibrant faculty culture. We seek a leader who embodies integrity, maturity, and honesty, aligned with the Mission and Values of the Henry Ford Health System, and who actively advocates for organizational values including gender equity and diversity.
