About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Help Desk Specialist to provide technical support and end-user assistance within a large-scale enterprise IT environment supporting the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). As the first point of contact for the team, you will be instrumental in troubleshooting desktop hardware, software, printers, servers, and network-related issues. This role is vital for maintaining operational continuity and ensuring that enterprise systems and infrastructure operations run smoothly.

In this position, you will not only resolve technical incidents but also collaborate with infrastructure, networking, security, and application support teams to address complex operational challenges. You will have the opportunity to create automation solutions to improve efficiency, manage Active Directory environments, and ensure compliance with strict security standards set by MDH, the Office of Enterprise Technology (OET), and the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT). The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, combining technical expertise with excellent communication skills to deliver responsive support to users across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleProvide telephone, remote, and in-person technical support for desktop systems and enterprise applications
  • check_circleInstall, configure, and maintain network software, servers, and operating systems to minimize downtime
  • check_circleAdminister Active Directory environments including user accounts, group policies, and directory services
  • check_circleCreate and deploy scripts and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency
  • check_circleDocument troubleshooting activities, resolutions, and installation procedures for Help Desk requests
  • check_circleMaintain centralized inventory and asset management records for enterprise hardware and software
  • check_circleCollaborate with infrastructure and security teams to resolve operational and technical issues
  • check_circleProvide end-user training and technical guidance on hardware and software solutions
  • check_circleServe as the initial point of contact for troubleshooting PC hardware, software, printers, and network issues
  • check_circleConfigure and repair enterprise hardware including servers, switches, printers, and video conferencing equipment

Requirements

  • verifiedBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related technical discipline

  • verified3+ years managing server hardware and software with Microsoft Server operating systems
  • verified3+ years providing user and infrastructure support in Help Desk or Service Desk environment
  • verifiedStrong knowledge of Networking concepts, OSI/OST model, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Server administration, and Hardware troubleshooting

Nice to Have

Microsoft certifications (Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, MCSA, MCSA/MCSE). Experience supporting Maryland State Government or other public sector enterprise environments. Familiarity with ITIL processes, service management frameworks, and enterprise ticketing systems. Experience supporting enterprise security compliance, endpoint management, and infrastructure modernization initiatives. Knowledge of scripting and automation technologies including PowerShell or related tools.
