Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
Our vision is simple: to transform healthcare for the benefits of the communities we serve. The transformation of healthcare requires talented individuals in every role here at Prisma Health. We are dedicated to providing high-quality care through a culture of compassion and excellence.
As a Medical Coder within the HIM-Coding department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our medical data. You will be responsible for translating complex medical information into standardized codes using established professional and regulatory guidelines. This role is essential for maintaining compliance, supporting accurate billing, and ensuring that patient care data is captured correctly across multiple facilities.
In this position, you will focus on inpatient coding, including major traumas and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) records. Your work involves assigning International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and ICD-Procedure Coding System (ICD-PCS) codes, as well as Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). You will verify the assignment of Major Complications and Comorbidities (MCC/CCs), Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs), and Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) to ensure they accurately reflect the severity of illness and resources utilized during patient encounters.
You will operate under the general supervision of HIM Coding leadership, reviewing work queues to prioritize charts according to department-specific guidelines and designated timelines. A key part of your day involves collaborating with Clinical Documentation Specialists to resolve unclear documentation through physician queries, ensuring all open queries are addressed prior to final coding. Your expertise will help identify and trend coding issues, contributing to the overall quality and compliance of our health information management processes.
We invite you to share your talent with us as we continue our mission to transform healthcare. If you are passionate about accuracy, compliance, and making a difference in patient care, we encourage you to apply.
