This position serves as a vital link in the freight logistics chain, responsible for transporting cargo across the dock area to and from trailers. The role ensures that freight is loaded, secured, and documented accurately to maintain operational efficiency and safety standards.
You will operate in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment where you will handle a variety of freight using both motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. A key part of your day involves verifying that documentation matches the physical freight, including checking types, weights, and hazardous materials. You will also be responsible for securing loads inside trailers using appropriate tools like straps and ropes, and performing necessary repairs on damaged freight.
The role requires physical stamina and adaptability. You will frequently lift and carry varying weights, maneuver dock plates, and open heavy trailer doors. The work is performed in a dock environment with exposure to weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. While the standard shift runs from 17:30 to 21:00, hours may vary based on operational needs. You may also be required to perform hostling duties if the situation demands it.
This position is based in a dock environment that can be physically demanding. You will work in varied weather conditions and be exposed to industrial elements such as exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. The role requires the ability to bend, twist, squat, and push or pull freight throughout the shift. Frequent contact with service center personnel is expected as you coordinate the movement of goods.
