This position serves as a vital link in the freight logistics chain, responsible for transporting cargo across the dock area to and from trailers. The role ensures that freight is loaded, secured, and documented accurately to maintain the integrity of the shipping process.
You will operate in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment where precision and safety are paramount. Your day involves verifying that documentation matches the physical freight, including checking types, weights, and hazardous materials. You will be responsible for securing cargo inside trailers using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope, and handling any necessary repairs for damaged goods.
The role requires physical agility and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. You will frequently interact with service center personnel and may assist customers with freight documentation as needed. If operational needs arise, you will also perform hostling duties within the yard.
This position is based in a dock environment that exposes employees to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. The work is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and carry varying weights, bend, twist, squat, and push or pull freight throughout the shift. Specific tasks include lifting dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds and opening trailer doors requiring 75 pounds of lift force.
Hours are scheduled from 17:00 to 21:30, though they may vary due to operational needs.
