About the Role
FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Dock Worker to ensure the efficient movement of freight within our dock area. In this fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, you will serve as a vital link between our service center personnel and our logistics operations. The role is designed for individuals who thrive in a dynamic setting where attention to detail and physical agility are key to maintaining our high standards of service.
You will be responsible for transporting freight to and from trailers for loading, utilizing both motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Your day will involve verifying that documentation matches freight descriptions, including type, weight, and hazardous materials, using current electronic or manual systems. You will also secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope, and handle the recouping or repair of damaged freight when necessary.
Beyond freight handling, you may be required to perform hostling duties and assist customers with freight and documentation needs. This position demands the ability to work independently or as part of a cohesive team, adapting to varying operational needs that may affect shift hours. The environment is a dock setting with exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise, requiring a high level of situational awareness and physical stamina.
