About the Role
FedEx Freight is seeking dedicated individuals to join our logistics team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. This position is vital to our operations, ensuring freight is accurately transported across the dock area and securely loaded onto trailers. You will serve as a key link in the supply chain, handling diverse freight types while maintaining strict adherence to safety and documentation standards.
The role involves a dynamic mix of physical activity and operational precision. You will utilize motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, to move goods. A significant part of your day includes verifying that documentation matches freight descriptions, including weight and hazardous material classifications, and securing loads with appropriate tools like straps and pallets. You may also assist customers with freight inquiries and perform hostling duties within the yard as needed.
Working Conditions
This position operates within a dock environment that exposes employees to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. The work is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and carry hand freight of varying weights, lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and open trailer doors requiring 75 pounds of force. The role demands flexibility, as hours may vary due to operational needs, with shifts available in the early morning, late afternoon, and overnight.
