XSTAR Aviation is dedicated to building the next generation of Air Force aviators. Our mission focuses on developing superior airmanship, increasing flight repetition, and enhancing overall flying proficiency within the bomber aircrew community. We provide a unique environment where experienced pilots can directly impact the readiness and skills of military aircrew.
As a Multiengine Flight Instructor (CFI), you will serve as a pivotal link between civilian aviation expertise and military operational needs. This is an in-person, non-commuter position based in Abilene, TX, requiring you to live within 30 minutes of the site. The role operates under FAA Part 91 regulations and follows a standard Monday-through-Friday schedule, distinct from traditional airline or rotational pilot rosters.
In this position, you will fly multiple times each week, delivering high-quality instruction to military aircrew. Your day will involve executing proficiency-focused flight profiles designed to sharpen airmanship, as well as providing ground-based instruction that bridges the gap between FAA and USAF operating procedures, airspace, and regulatory frameworks. You will also be assigned a ground duty aligned with site operations, such as safety, training coordination, or program administration, integrating you fully into the organizational structure of a military flying unit.
Success in this role requires sound aeronautical judgment, strong crew coordination, and the ability to safely execute operations in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with program leadership, operations support, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable daily operations while representing XSTAR Aviation professionally with military personnel and government stakeholders.
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Prior military pilots who do not meet all minimums may be considered. The process includes an initial screening of flight logs and certifications, followed by interviews focused on instructional ability, aeronautical decision-making, and cultural fit within our team-oriented operational environment.
XSTAR Aviation is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristics as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.
