This role is situated within the Pediatric Emergency Department, a critical unit dedicated to providing immediate, high-acuity care to patients ranging from neonates to geriatric adults. The team operates under a mission to ensure patient safety and rapid stabilization through a collaborative approach involving Registered Nurses, physicians, and support staff.
As a key member of the Clinical Nursing Support team, you will assist in the comprehensive care of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position serves as the frontline for initial triage screening, stabilization, and preparation for transport. Your day-to-day involves performing essential clinical tasks such as 12-lead EKGs, blood glucose testing, peripheral venous punctures, and wound care. You will also play a vital role in emergency resuscitation efforts, assisting with advanced life support (ALS), cardiac monitoring, cardioversion, and defibrillation.
The role requires a proactive approach to patient safety, encouraging patients to participate in their own care while identifying and correcting environmental risks. You will manage emergency equipment and supplies, ensuring PAR levels are maintained, and collect and transport specimens according to protocol. While the primary focus is on pediatric populations, assignments may span all age groups, requiring adaptability and a broad clinical skill set.
This position offers significant shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Additionally, a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available for qualified candidates.
Candidates must possess an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License, PALS, and CPR for Healthcare/BLS. The UNMH Paramedic Medication Administration Test must be completed within six months of hire. Bilingual proficiency in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued.
