This position serves as a vital support member within the Pediatric Emergency Department, assisting in the comprehensive care of patients ranging from neonates to geriatric age groups. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the role is designed to ensure rapid and effective patient stabilization, triage, and transport preparation in high-acuity environments.
The day-to-day responsibilities involve performing initial triage assessments, administering medications and IV therapies, and executing advanced life support protocols. Team members will actively engage in cardiac monitoring, wound care, and specimen collection while maintaining strict adherence to hospital safety policies. The role requires a proactive approach to patient safety, encouraging patients to participate in their own care and identifying potential risks in the clinical environment.
This is a 0.90 FTE position primarily scheduled for nights, with significant shift differentials applied for weekday nights (17%), weekend nights (26%), and weekend days (15). The role may involve rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends, including on-call duties. The environment presents specific physical demands, including heavy work requirements and exposure to significant hazards such as combative patients, chemicals, and biohazardous materials requiring PPE.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and hold an active Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License. Essential certifications include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and CPR for Healthcare Providers. Completion of the UNMH Paramedic Medication Administration Test within six months is required.
