This position serves as a vital support member within the Pediatric Emergency Department, assisting in the comprehensive care of patients ranging from neonates to geriatric age groups. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the role is designed to facilitate rapid triage, stabilization, and preparation for transport, ensuring seamless patient flow in high-acuity environments.
The day-to-day responsibilities involve performing initial triage assessments, administering medications under medical direction, and executing critical procedures such as 12-lead EKGs, peripheral venous punctures, and wound care. Team members are expected to actively participate in advanced life support (ALS) scenarios, provide cardiac monitoring, and manage emergency equipment to maintain optimal readiness for resuscitation efforts.
This is a PRN (as-needed) role with a 0.05 FTE allocation, featuring rotating shifts that include weekday nights, weekends, and holidays. The environment is dynamic and requires the ability to handle significant physical demands, including moving heavy objects and patients, while navigating potential safety hazards such as combative patients and biohazardous materials.
A proactive approach to patient safety is central to the team's culture. Staff are encouraged to question current policies, identify environmental risks, and engage patients in their own care to ensure transparency and trust. The department values diversity and actively seeks bilingual capabilities in languages such as Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo to better serve the community.
Shift differentials are applied to enhance compensation for non-standard hours: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Final compensation is determined by a combination of factors including experience, education, and organizational needs.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and hold an active UNMH Paramedic Medication Administration Test completion (within the last 6 months). Essential credentials include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License, PALS, and CPR for Healthcare Providers. Those interested in joining the Clinical Nursing Support team should ensure all certifications are current and ready for verification upon hire.
