This position is embedded within the Pediatric Emergency Department, a critical care environment dedicated to serving patients across the entire lifespan, from neonates to geriatric populations. The team operates under a collaborative model where clinical support staff work under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses and physicians to ensure seamless patient care during high-acuity situations.
As a Paramedic in the Pediatric Emergency Department, you will serve as a vital extension of the nursing team, assisting in the comprehensive care of patients ranging from infants to adults. Your day-to-day involves performing initial triage screening assessments, stabilizing patients, and preparing them for transport when necessary. You will document care activities and provide ongoing monitoring while assisting with procedures in the emergency department and the resuscitation unit.
Under medical direction, you will administer IV and oral medications, perform advanced life support (ALS) components, and execute diagnostic tasks such as 12-lead EKGs and blood glucose testing. The role requires active participation in emergency care, including oxygen therapy, suctioning, and wound care, as well as managing emergency equipment and supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels. A proactive approach to patient safety is essential, involving the identification of environmental risks and encouraging patients to participate in their own care.
This is a PRN (as-needed) position with a 0.05 FTE allocation and rotating shifts. To support staff working non-standard hours, the role includes specific shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Compensation is determined by factors including experience, education, and organizational needs.
