This role is dedicated to supporting teachers in delivering a comprehensive educational experience for special education students. Whether in specialized special education classrooms or general education settings, the assistant plays a vital part in managing instructional, clerical, and student life activities to ensure every student has the support they need to succeed.
As a Special Education Assistant, you will be the backbone of the classroom environment, working closely with educators to facilitate daily learning and life skills. The position requires a flexible mindset to adapt to the evolving needs of students, ranging from providing one-on-one tutorial support to supervising students in community settings. Success in this role hinges on the ability to relate effectively with students, staff, and parents, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
You will be expected to apply knowledge of child guidance principles and basic instructional techniques while maintaining strong office, computer, and communication skills. A key part of your day involves completing tasks independently with a positive attitude, driven by a genuine desire to see young people achieve their potential. To ensure you are equipped for these responsibilities, you will participate in specialized training provided by the Special Education Department.
Positions are scheduled for the school year, with shifts typically occurring between 7:15 AM and 3:30 PM. Exact start and end times may vary depending on the specific needs of the school and the hours allocated to the position.
The role offers a robust benefits package, including paid holidays and paid time off. All employees receive basic term life insurance and have access to an optional direct primary care plan, along with various other optional supplemental benefits. For positions exceeding 6 hours per day, a public pension is also included.
We are looking for candidates who hold a high school diploma or GED. While previous experience working with students with special needs is preferred, the most critical attributes are flexibility, strong tutorial skills, and a commitment to student success. We value individuals who can navigate the changing dynamics of a classroom with grace and professionalism.
Candidates must be willing to participate in the training provided by the Special Education Department as part of their onboarding. Specific interview steps and application instructions are managed through the district's standard hiring procedures.
