The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah is dedicated to advancing research on air quality within Utah's urban environment. Our team operates a network of meteorological and air monitoring instruments to generate critical data for understanding atmospheric conditions.
As an Electronics Technician, you will serve as a vital link in our research infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of real-time air quality data. This position is designed to support the design, maintenance, and growth of our mobile and fixed-site monitoring networks. You will manage operations to maintain data availability, conduct quality assurance reviews, and perform data analysis to identify improvements in measurement systems.
Your day-to-day work involves a blend of lab and field responsibilities. You will design, schedule, and deploy instrumentation, while also leading site visits to troubleshoot sensor issues and perform repairs. A significant portion of your time will be spent coordinating with multiple research groups, external vendors, and private, public, and federal monitoring programs to address data gaps and generate solutions. Additionally, you will play a key role in the department's educational mission by assisting with the mentoring and training of students and faculty.
This is a full-time, campus-based role that requires frequent travel to third-party manufacturing sites and depots for inspection and maintenance. Field work is conducted year-round in diverse environments, including urban outdoor settings, warehouses, and laboratories. Success in this role demands creativity, reliability, and resourcefulness to maintain operational systems under varying conditions.
