The Electric Ground Worker position serves as an excellent starting point for a career in the electrical industry. In this role, you will be exposed to the many facets of construction, operation, and maintenance of the Electrical Distribution System. The majority of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and involves heavy labor.
You will support journeyman linemen by providing tools, materials, and supplies, while ensuring safety rules and regulations are strictly observed on the worksite. Your day-to-day responsibilities include driving and maintaining trucks, preparing equipment and work sites, and operating various construction tools such as diggers and aerial devices. This role is ideal for those who enjoy the variety of challenging work outside of an office and wish to develop communication, technical, and mechanical abilities.
The position offers a clear path for advancement into Line-work, Substation, Design, or Dispatch areas. As a Ground Worker, you must be willing and able to work up to 300 hours of overtime per year, with a strong preference for the ability to respond within one hour of a call for overtime.
Applicants must complete a "recommended" test results assessment from the Modern Hire Electric Ground Worker Virtual Job Tryout, which is untimed but typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. Additionally, a pre-employment fitness physical assessment is required.
Upon successful completion of your pre-employment background and medical checks, your first day of work will be at our Training Center in Chester, VA. You will attend a comprehensive 4-week Ground Worker training program at Dominion Energy's expense.
