This position serves as a vital support system within the classroom, providing instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. The role is designed to help prepare, conduct, and manage daily classroom activities, ensuring a supportive environment where students can thrive.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of instructional support and student management. You will work directly with individual students or small groups to assist with reading, writing, and mathematics under the teacher's direction. Beyond the desk, you will help maintain a neat and orderly classroom, assist with the care of equipment, and support the teacher in preparing instructional materials.
Throughout the school day, you will supervise students in various settings, including the lunchroom, bus, and playground. You will also play a key role in administrative tasks, such as helping to score objective tests, maintaining records, and providing orientation to substitute teachers. The role requires active participation in staff development training and faculty meetings to continuously improve job performance.
This position involves working both inside and outside the classroom, exposing you to varying weather conditions and noise levels. The physical demands include moderate standing and walking, with occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping. You will be required to perform regular light lifting and carrying of items weighing less than 15 pounds. The environment often involves frequent interruptions, requiring the ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet specific educational requirements based on the nature of the support provided. For aides not providing instructional support in Title I, Part A programs, a high school diploma or GED certificate is required. For those providing instructional support in Title I, Part A programs, an associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or meeting formal academic assessment requirements as defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is necessary.\n In addition to education, successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to assist in instructing core subjects, work effectively with children, and communicate clearly and professionally.
