This position offers a pathway to proficiency in operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, through comprehensive education and skills development. Beyond driving, the role encompasses essential non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work, ensuring a holistic understanding of freight logistics.
Your day will involve a mix of operational and customer-facing tasks. You will perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using various tools and supplies. The role requires handling freight with motorized and manual equipment, verifying documentation, and complying with hazardous material regulations.
You will also serve as a point of contact for customers, communicating pick-up or delivery needs and identifying opportunities for additional business. Depending on operational needs, you may perform duties of a road driver or freight handler, including chaining vehicle tires and collecting checks for freight charges.
This role involves driving day and night on all types of roads and in all weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. Hours may vary to meet operational needs, and the job requires the physical ability to lift, bend, squat, and climb in and out of trucks.
