This position offers a unique opportunity to develop proficiency in operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, while mastering essential non-driving duties. Through comprehensive education and skills development, you will become a versatile team member capable of managing the full spectrum of freight operations, from driving to dock work.
You will serve as a critical link in the logistics chain, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of goods. Your day will involve a dynamic mix of driving, equipment handling, and customer interaction. You will perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using various tools and supplies. Additionally, you will handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, and manage documentation and hazardous material compliance.
Beyond the physical operations, this role emphasizes customer service. You will communicate directly with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs, provide leads to sales teams, and resolve issues related to delays or equipment problems. Where operationally necessary, you may also perform duties as a road driver or freight handler, ensuring flexibility and support across the team.
This role requires driving day and night on all types of roads in all weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. Hours may vary to meet operational needs, and the position requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
