Howard University Hospital is seeking a Director of Talent Management to provide strategic and operational leadership for enterprise-wide talent functions. This pivotal role serves as a bridge between the hospital's clinical, academic, and operational excellence and the workforce strategies that drive them. The Director will oversee compensation, talent acquisition, and leave management, ensuring these functions align with university objectives, maintain regulatory compliance, and deliver a competitive employee value proposition.
Operating within a complex academic medical center environment, this position requires high levels of judgment, confidentiality, and collaboration. The Director will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating institutional goals into actionable workforce plans and proactively addressing talent risks. The role involves direct and indirect supervision of managers, professional staff, and vendors, exercising authority over work planning, performance management, and process improvement initiatives.
The Director will navigate a dynamic landscape of internal and external stakeholders. Internal contacts span hospital executive leadership, clinical and non-clinical department heads, finance, legal, compliance, payroll, and university HR partners. Externally, the role engages with compensation survey providers, recruitment firms, benefits administrators, regulatory agencies, and peer healthcare institutions. Success in this role depends on the ability to foster strong relationships across these diverse groups while maintaining a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) and seven or more years of progressive HR leadership experience, with significant responsibility for compensation and talent acquisition. Experience in a healthcare or academic medical center is strongly preferred.
Interested candidates should submit their application through the Howard University Hospital careers portal. Please ensure your resume and cover letter clearly demonstrate your expertise in compensation methodologies, employment laws, and recruitment best practices, as well as your proven ability to lead teams and influence senior leaders.
