Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY). We offer more than sixty associate degree programs alongside fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, our campus served approximately 24,000 students.
Our community is a vibrant tapestry of diversity: more than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside the United States, hailing from 136 countries and speaking 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students, and virtually all are ethnic minorities. Our students include a significant population of women (58%) and adults over the age of 25 (27%). Forty-six percent of our associate degree students are Hispanic.
LaGuardia is a proven engine for economic mobility, ranking fifth among U.S. community colleges in moving low-income students into the middle class and beyond, according to studies by Stanford University (2017) and the Brookings Institution (2020). Upon graduation, most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically within CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees, while graduates of career programs in Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce directly.
The Human Resources Department at LaGuardia Community College advances the College's mission by facilitating the effective recruitment, development, motivation, and deployment of personnel. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where individual achievements are acknowledged and respected.
