The Director of Operations & Care Coordination serves as a senior healthcare leader within Correctional Health Services at UNM Hospital. This position is accountable for building and sustaining high-reliability operational systems within a large jail environment. The role provides strategic oversight of quality infrastructure, infection prevention and control, phlebotomy services, and administrative operations to ensure safe, effective, and compliant healthcare delivery.
A central component of this position is supporting National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) accreditation, advancing performance improvement, and ensuring operational alignment with the McClendon Consent Decree. The Director partners closely with clinical and operational leadership to promote patient safety, regulatory readiness, and operational excellence. This is a non-patient care leadership role focused on the systems that enable care.
Reporting to Non Clinical Leadership within the MDC - Medical department, this role works in tandem with Physician and Nurse Dyads to manage the healthcare delivery system. The Director provides executive oversight of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee, ensuring meaningful data review and interdisciplinary participation. The position also leads interdisciplinary reviews for policies impacting patient safety, infection control, and laboratory services, ensuring they are current, evidence-based, and operationally executable.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain MDC security clearance as a condition of employment. The role requires working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals and managing significant hazards, including chemical and biohazardous materials. Compensation includes a safety incentive pay of $6.00/hr. Additional compensation is based on factors including experience, education, and organizational considerations.
