This position serves as a vital link in the continuum of patient care, providing specialized nutritional support to individuals navigating health challenges or disease states. The role blends the science of human nutrition with the art of clinical application, focusing on selecting and obtaining food to optimize patient outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary medical team to design and implement complex nutritional care plans, ensuring that dietary interventions align with clinical diagnoses, physiological needs, and patient preferences.
In this capacity, you will not only evaluate comprehensive nutrition histories but also act as an educator and counselor for patients and their families. A key aspect of the role involves proactive communication with outpatient providers and families to plan nutritional interventions before clinical admissions or procedures. You will supervise the production of specialized medical diets, ensuring strict quality control and compliance with medical orders, while also mentoring Dietetic Technicians and food service staff.
The position offers the opportunity to engage in innovative work, such as developing unique recipes or formula compositions for patients with restricted diets. You will also interact with medical students, house officers, and attending physicians to foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient health and successful transitions to home care.
