The Dietary Aide serves as a vital support member of the kitchen team, ensuring the smooth operation of meal service and sanitation protocols. Assignments are determined by the immediate needs of the shift, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach to daily tasks. Reporting directly to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor, this role is essential for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and efficient food service environment.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of food preparation, sanitation, and logistical support. You will set up meal trays, prepare nourishments and snacks, and assist with serving meals to residents. A significant portion of the role focuses on maintaining hygiene standards: stripping and washing returned trays, operating the dishwasher, and rigorously monitoring chlorine concentrations and water temperatures to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Beyond food service, you will maintain the kitchen's physical environment by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning work surfaces and refrigerators, and managing trash and garbage disposal. Groceries will be stored in a safe, orderly, and clean manner. The role requires active participation in orientation and ongoing training, ensuring you stay updated on procedures and safety standards.
Success in this position relies on the ability to work in cooperation and harmony with personnel across all departments. You will be expected to leave the kitchen in a clean and sanitary state at the end of your shift and remain available to assist the Cook or Dietary Supervisor as needed. The work environment is characterized by low to moderate noise levels, though the role demands frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
To succeed in this role, you must possess a High School diploma or equivalent and obtain and maintain a valid food handler's certificate. Strong reading skills are essential to interpret technical procedures, follow recipes, and understand written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions. You should be comfortable applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees. The selection process will focus on verifying your ability to learn food service routines quickly and your capacity to solve practical problems in a fast-paced environment.
We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
