The Deputy Probation Officer serves as a critical link between the judicial system and the community, performing professional work under general supervision. This role involves the investigation of adult offenders and juvenile court referrals, the supervision of probationers, and active participation in institutional care, custody, treatment, and counseling. The position requires a balance of investigative rigor, social casework, and crisis intervention to support public safety and offender rehabilitation.
This is a continuous filing exam with the next cut-off dates at 5:00 PM on 8/1/25, 10/3/25, 12/5/25, 4/10/26, and 10/9/26 (final). Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply immediately via the online County of Sacramento employment application.
The selection process utilizes a Formula Rate Examination (weighted 100%), which evaluates the relevance, level, recency, progression, and quality of a candidate's education, training, and experience based solely on their responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Candidates must provide descriptive, detailed, and complete answers; responses such as "See Resume" or copy-pasted text will not be considered. All applications and documentation must be submitted by the cut-off date, as the system automatically logs out users who have not completed their submission.
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be ranked on an eligible list based on their examination scores. All candidates will receive written notice of their results via email or their governmentjobs.com inbox. The successful candidate will serve a six-month probationary period.
