The Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit or department. This role involves providing supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegating and supervising unit activities. The position may require working on other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution.
In this specific capacity, the nurse demonstrates specialized competency in the care of neuro patients. This includes performing neuro assessments, managing airways, caring for tracheostomy patients, assisting physicians during special neuro procedures, and utilizing equipment such as halo braces and ventilators. The role also encompasses functioning as a preceptor to new staff and participating in the 'TIA' teaching program.
Candidates must possess a valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License and BLS certification. A graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required, with a BSN preferred. Applicants must have one year of Neonatal ICU RN experience and be proficient in using computer software, including electronic patient records and internet literature searches.
