The Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit. This role involves providing supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegating and supervising unit activities. The position may require working on other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution.
In this specific capacity, the nurse demonstrates specialized competency in the care of neuro patients. This includes performing neuro assessments, managing airways, caring for tracheostomy patients, and assisting physicians during special neuro procedures. The role also encompasses pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning, as well as caring for patients in halo braces and on ventilators. Additionally, the nurse functions as a preceptor to new staff and participates in the 'TIA' teaching program.
Candidates must possess a valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License and BLS certification. A graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required, with a BSN preferred. Proficiency in computer software, including electronic patient records, and the ability to use the internet for literature searches regarding patient care are essential.
YNHHS is an EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran employer.
