The Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit. This role involves providing supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegating and supervising unit activities. The position may require working on other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution to maintain a high level of service.
This specific role focuses on the care of neuro patients. The nurse demonstrates specialized skill and knowledge in neuro assessment, airway management, caring for tracheostomy patients, and assisting physicians during special neuro procedures. Responsibilities include performing pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning, caring for patients in halo braces, and managing patients on ventilators. The nurse also functions as a preceptor to new staff and participates in the 'TIA' teaching program.
