This is a professional leadership position dedicated to the supervision and training of crisis center staff, interns, and volunteers, while managing the daily operations of the Alachua County Crisis Center. The role exists to maintain a continuous community suicide and crisis intervention program, ensuring that both professional and paraprofessional resources are effectively deployed to support clients in mental health emergencies or life crises.
Employees in this classification work under the direction of a higher-level supervisor, with performance reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation. As an emergency essential classification, this role requires a commitment to work during declared disasters or emergencies. The position demands a positive customer service focus and a dedication to building an organizational culture aligned with the County's core values.
The day-to-day work involves a dynamic mix of administrative oversight and direct crisis intervention. You will supervise and coordinate subordinate employees, determining work procedures, assigning duties, and conducting performance reviews. A significant portion of the role is dedicated to developing and coordinating training for graduate interns and volunteers, ensuring a continuous supply of materials and that staff are equipped with the latest crisis intervention techniques.
You will also provide direct in-house crisis intervention services to walk-in clients or those referred via phone lines. This requires the ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations, coordinating subordinates and volunteers to ensure client needs are met. The role extends beyond the office; you will liaise with mental health service providers throughout the community, inform community organizations about available services, and may be required to drive a County or personal vehicle to respond to crisis calls 24/7 or to conduct offsite training and outreach events.
Grant-Funded Status: This is a grant-funded position. While employees are eligible for benefits, there is no guarantee of permanent employment.
Work Schedule: Due to the nature of crisis intervention, this role requires a flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend work to meet client needs.
Requirements: Successful completion of all applicable background checks, both pre-hire and ongoing, is required. A valid Florida Driver's License and a Motor Vehicle Record meeting Alachua County policy standards are mandatory.
