About People's Self-Help Housing

People's Self-Help Housing (PSHH) is the longest-serving nonprofit developer on California's Central Coast. Our mission is to build affordable homes with site-based services that offer opportunities to change lives and strengthen communities. We serve low-income working families, farmworkers, seniors, and veterans, while providing welcoming environments for those living with disabilities and the formerly homeless.

Beyond construction, we manage beautiful and accessible neighborhoods across San Luis, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. Alongside our housing initiatives, we offer a broad array of programs designed to promote health, education, and connections to community-based resources.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller of Corporate Accounting and Finance who is passionate about combining financial leadership with organizational impact. As a key leader within the finance team, you will oversee all corporate accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, and compliance across our grants, programs, and development projects.

In this role, you will supervise staff, guide budgeting and audit processes, and partner with executive leadership to ensure resources are managed responsibly and strategically in support of PSHH's mission. You will play a critical part in maintaining the financial integrity that allows us to continue our vital work in the community.

Key Responsibilities

check_circleSupervise accounting staff and guide budgeting and audit processes
check_circleManage and maintain accounting department policies and procedures
check_circleOversee all corporate bank accounts and approve check requests
check_circleManage construction draw processes to ensure accurate and timely funding
check_circleMaintain accurate chart of accounts and general ledger for all grants and programs
check_circleMonitor and manage weekly and monthly cash flow to ensure adequate funding
check_circleMaintain internal control systems and procedures for the corporate accounting department
check_circleCoordinate annual corporate audits including auditor selection and audit preparation
check_circlePrepare and file all tax returns including payments to FTB and charitable trust registration

Requirements

verifiedMinimum of five years of management experience

verifiedFamiliarity with Federal GAAP accounting principles
