The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) is the largest state agency, employing over 14,000 people. Our mission is to safeguard and preserve lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation, while providing care, custody, and supervision for adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The department encompasses state prisons, healthcare, facility operations, and community-based probation and parole services.
The Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) serves as the agency's Capital Project Coordinator. We provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability planning, and construction services to ensure all statewide institutions comply with building codes and legislative mandates. A core part of our purpose is promoting rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training in construction and maintenance trades.
Our team consists of experts in design, project management, and sustainability. We support institutions directly by installing and maintaining critical infrastructure, including kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. Through our Construction and Maintenance divisions, we undertake major renovation projects and provide essential preventative services for HVAC, electrical, security systems, and energy management across regional yards and satellite facilities.
We are recruiting an energized and collaborative CAP Construction Trades Supervisor to join the DECM-Construction Operations Team in Raleigh, NC. Reporting to the General Construction Manager, this supervisory role is vital for ensuring that all construction, renovation, and major maintenance trade installations are executed within scope, budget, and schedule.
In this position, you will exercise initiative and judgment to determine the extent of repair or replacement work needed. You will supervise employees engaged in journeyman-level work across various trades, including electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and equipment operation. While you may perform highly technical tasks independently, a key part of your day involves coordinating with the CAP Construction Superintendent to ensure all work adheres to project drawings, specifications, and NC Building Codes.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a standard schedule of Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The role occasionally requires work on Fridays and weekends, as well as overnight travel to meet organizational demands. A state-owned vehicle will be assigned for business use.
