Community Service Officers (CSOs) serve as the frontline of safety on college campuses, patrolling grounds to maintain security and assist during emergencies. This role is vital for controlling building access, managing crowds, and providing escort services to ensure the well-being of students and staff.
Beyond physical patrols, CSOs perform essential service functions such as access control and personnel check-in. They act as a bridge between the campus community and professional emergency services, documenting incidents, writing detailed reports, and maintaining accurate records of all activities. By collaborating with campus security, local law enforcement, and other stakeholders, CSOs help coordinate responses to safety concerns and unordinary events.
A typical day involves utilizing keysets to grant access to specific areas while vetting guests through documented security logs. Officers communicate emergencies, calls for service, and potential crimes to dispatch via radio. They are trained to respond to medical incidents, fires, or natural disasters, providing immediate assistance until professional help arrives.
During late hours or in dimly lit areas, CSOs offer escort services to ensure safe passage for campus members. At events and gatherings, they manage crowds, enforce safety protocols, and respond to any disturbances or conflicts. The role requires adaptability to varied shifts and holidays, demanding integrity and trustworthiness in handling confidential information.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age with a good moral character. While a high school diploma or equivalent is required, 3 to 12 months of security work experience is preferred. Possession of an unarmed guard license from the Tennessee Bureau of Commerce and Insurance is highly recommended.
We seek candidates who exhibit diversity awareness and cultural sensitivity. The ideal officer demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong conflict resolution abilities, and a customer service orientation to support the campus community effectively.
