This position serves as a critical component of precision manufacturing operations within a government contract environment. The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to produce high-tolerance metal parts, ensuring every component meets strict engineering blueprints and quality standards. The role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting machining programs, performing necessary machine offsets, and maintaining a clean, safe workstation.
Day-to-day activities involve a blend of technical precision and collaborative problem-solving. You will interpret complex technical drawings, utilize precision measuring instruments like micrometers and calipers, and complete essential documentation such as job travelers and inspection reports. The position also emphasizes continuous improvement, requiring collaboration with engineers to implement lean manufacturing practices and refine machining processes. Success in this role demands adherence to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines while navigating a dynamic manufacturing floor.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance, with U.S. citizenship being a mandatory prerequisite. The hiring process will evaluate technical proficiency in operating CNC machinery, the ability to read and interpret GD&T, and experience with precision measuring instruments. 2-year degree, technical certification, apprenticeship or equivalent. Experience with 5-axis mills. Experience operating wire EDM machines. Experience programming with CAD/CAM software (MasterCam preferred). Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
