This position serves as a critical financial and logistical backbone for the Transportation Department, reporting directly to the Executive Director. The role is dedicated to executing the department's financial needs, ensuring the integrity of fixed asset records, and maintaining comprehensive district vehicle records. The incumbent acts as a steward for the district, students, and community, ensuring all financial operations align with the organization's best interests.
The day-to-day rhythm involves a blend of precise accounting tasks and dynamic logistical coordination. You will process purchase orders, invoices, and expense claims across all Transportation Centers, while managing monthly billing and state reporting requirements for the Texas Education Agency (TEA). A significant portion of the role focuses on the lifecycle management of the district's fleet, from coordinating vehicle inspections and renewals in Fleetvision to handling retirements and license plate logistics. Additionally, the role supports the department's operational continuity by managing petty cash, office supplies, and daycare center compliance.
This is a non-exempt position with a 238-day duty year. The work environment is a hybrid of office and field settings. While the role involves continual sitting and repetitive motions, it also requires working both inside and outside, with moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes. The position demands the ability to maintain emotional control amidst frequent interruptions and irregular hours, including occasional prolonged shifts. Physical requirements include the ability to climb in and out of school bus emergency exits.
