As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will be the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales goals by identifying opportunities to grow our business relationships. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional service on the road.
Your shift will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, or straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using appropriate tools like straps, rope, and pallets. Beyond driving, you will handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and manage necessary documentation and reports.
Communication is key to your success. You will coordinate closely with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues, while also engaging directly with customers to determine their needs. A unique aspect of this position is the opportunity to contribute to our sales efforts by soliciting additional business and providing leads for new opportunities. You may also be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires or step into the role of a road driver or dock employee depending on operational needs.
Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. Applicants must also have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
