As a FedEx Freight Driver, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your primary mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales goals by identifying opportunities for additional business. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Your shift will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will be responsible for performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, and securing freight using appropriate tools like straps, ropes, and pallets.
Beyond driving, the role requires hands-on freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. You will verify documentation, comply with hazardous material regulations, and manage cash or checks for freight charges as needed. Communication is key; you will stay in constant contact with dispatch regarding delays or equipment issues and interact directly with customers to determine delivery needs. Depending on operational requirements, you may also perform duties typically associated with road drivers or dock employees, including chaining vehicle tires.
This position involves driving on all types of roads in various weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of the truck. Hours may vary to meet operational needs.
To be considered, candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. Applicants must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Note that the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
