As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales goals by identifying opportunities for additional business. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Your shift will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. A significant part of your day involves securing freight with straps and rope, verifying documentation, and complying with hazardous material regulations.
Beyond driving, you will interact directly with customers to determine delivery needs and solicit additional business, turning every delivery into a potential sales opportunity. You may also be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires or assist with dock operations depending on daily operational needs. The role demands adaptability, as hours may vary to meet operational requirements, and you will navigate all types of roads and weather conditions.
Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. If you do not currently have the hazardous materials endorsement, it must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
