This position serves as a vital partner to the SPAO Pre-Award Research and Support Office, collaborating with a diverse mix of departments within the School of Medicine. The primary focus is to manage the Department/Center's pre-award processes for all sponsored research activities. This involves overseeing the full application lifecycle, maintaining both electronic and hard-copy filing systems, updating databases, and advising faculty, fellows, and students on the rules and regulations of major funding agencies such as the NIH, ACS, and AHA.
The role provides essential financial and operational management information to the Director of Research Administration. The selected candidate will exercise a high level of independent decision-making authority while working closely with the Director to maintain crucial support functions for the Administrative office and various departments. These functions include assisting with post-award grant management, compiling detailed budgets, and facilitating regular communication with key University departments including HR, OSR, the Provost, and the Dean.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of university business functions and federal regulations. The selection process will prioritize individuals who can effectively establish working relationships with staff, students, and high-level officials, while maintaining discretion with proprietary and confidential information.

Experience with grants and contracts. Ability to prepare detailed financial reports and budgets in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and or sponsoring agencies. Extensive knowledge of university financial accounting, HR and administrative systems. Knowledge of NIH, NSF, DOD, and other awarding agency regulations and requirements, as well as RAMSeS, Connect Carolina, eRA Commons and other related systems. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
