The Facilities Building Operator is a vital part of Henry Ford College's physical plant team, ensuring the efficient heating and cooling of campus buildings and the maintenance of critical infrastructure. This role serves as the frontline guardian of the college's environmental conditions, operating HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, and pneumatic equipment within the strict limits of the College's Integrated Energy Master Plan.
You will be the primary point of contact for the night shift (Monday–Friday, 11 PM–7 AM), managing the building automation system to command equipment and performing minor plumbing and mechanical repairs. Your day involves monitoring mechanical rooms, responding to service calls, and executing emergency shutdown procedures to protect campus assets during power outages or flooding. Success in this role requires a blend of technical competence in managing complex utility infrastructure and a steadfast commitment to safety, reliability, and attention to detail.

Internal applicants currently training as building operators at HFC may be considered prior to completing all applicable licensing qualifications. However, permanent selection for the position requires the acquisition of all necessary licenses prior to the completion of the probationary period.

Experience working in a physical plant. Experience with integrated energy management. Knowledge and effective operation of the physical plant and related equipment in the continuous management of campus building temperatures and environmental conditions. Technical competence acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience.
Skills: High Pressure Boiler Operator's License, 1ST Class Refrigeration Engineer's License, Epa 608 Universal Certification, Hvac, Building Automation System, Integrated Energy Management, CMMS, Plumbing, Pneumatic Equipment, Boilers.
Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
